Beginning meditators can experience many forms of difficulty when starting their practice. This post talks about the top three barriers that I experienced and what you can do to ease them.

Think of barriers as speed bumps

When driving in your neighborhood or in an area where speed bumps are present, you don’t give up driving, right?

Yet many first-time meditators, when they encounter one or more barriers on the path of meditation, do exactly that. They hit a barrier and swear that they’ll never meditate again, that’s it’s a worthless activity.

But this is silly… and totally predictable.

There are many barriers we can potentially encounter when we begin meditating… in fact, after 17 years, I still encounter them. But they don’t have to derail our commitment to pursuing a mindful mode of living.
